Greenrock Resident and Community Support During COVID-19

Dear Greenrock Residents,
We are taking this opportunity to update all residents about our continuing resident support measures and to discuss several rent and other tenancy matters.
Before doing so, we wish to acknowledge and thank you, our valued residents. As the impact of the pandemic continues to affect us all, the challenge of maintaining physical distancing in a high-rise environment has become magnified. We want to express our gratitude to every resident for not only choosing to live in a Greenrock community but for the patience and care we have all shown towards each other during these very challenging times. As our CEO Gloria Mogavero stated in a related posting on our website, "it's a time of separation, but we've never been closer."
Support measures to date - $500,000
In March, we announced $500,000 in resident support and community funding: $200,000 in grocery gift cards—$100 to each Greenrock suite, and Greenrock Charitable Trust funding of $300,000 to local charities. We are pleased to advise that donations to date include $150,000 to the Daily Bread Food Bank, and $30,000 each to Stella's Place, Kids Help Phone, The 519, The Redwood, and SPRINT Senior Care.
Support measures—$1,000,000 in new funding
We are proud to announce today that the funding measures noted above will be extended to May and June with new Greenrock resident support and charitable funding of an additional $1 Million.
These funds will again be allocated to grocery gift cards for all suites with the balance donated to Canadian charities working to support our communities.
In addition to a $100 gift card delivered in April, every Greenrock suite within its 2000 suite portfolio will receive a further $100 grocery gift card for each of May and June for a total of $300 in gift cards per suite. For suites with mail slots, gift cards will be delivered May 1st. All other suites will receive their gift cards via Canada Post within the next two weeks.
Our entire Greenrock team thanks the Greenrock Charitable Trust for their continuing support of our communities. As part of this announcement, an additional $600,000 in new charitable funding will be made to charities in the GTA and across Canada in May and June. Planning to deploy these new donations is underway and will be communicated to all residents shortly.
We are honoured to be able to help our communities in this time of need and find it meaningful that all Greenrock residents have participated with us as we seek to support our brothers and sisters across our broader communities.
For those who have paid their rent—thank you!
We previously asked all residents who can pay their rent to continue to do so as they would normally, and we wish to express our sincere appreciation to the large majority of residents who paid their rent in April and will continue to do so in May and going forward.
Continuing challenges and essential communications
We acknowledge that the closure of all non-essential businesses has put many of our residents' livelihoods at stake.. In March, we established a rent assistance program whereby residents can use their last month's rent (LMR) as a credit towards their upcoming rent payments. A small number of residents applied for this program in April and we are pleased to remind residents in need of this continuing program. Rent increase notices
We continue to evaluate the effects of the emergency on our residents. As we announced in March regarding the suspension of April rent increases, no increase notices will be issued during May 2020 as well.
In closing, we also want to acknowledge our valued staff. Greenrock is a family company that has operated in Toronto for over 60 years, and we are proud to advise that no Greenrock staff have been laid-off during this emergency. Consistent with our values, in many ways, we think of our employees as part of our extended family, so please join me in thanking our committed staff.
As virus infection rates start to diminish, we are optimistic that the many distancing and control measures we have undertaken together are having the desired effect. As we prepare to operate in a post-COVID world, Greenrock will continue to care for our tenants, employees, and communities.

Greenrock IMPACT Needs Your Help to Nominate Local Charities

Dear Greenrock Residents,
On top of the $100 grocery gift cards we delivered to all suites in April, May, and June 2020, Greenrock recently pledged $900,000 towards charitable organizations in need of support during COVID-19. Of this $900,000 pledge, there is still $600,000 remaining to be donated to charities across the GTA and Canada.
We encourage our residents to help decide which non-profit organizations would benefit most from these funds and ask that you submit your nominations to email@example.com by Friday, May 15. Nominated charities must be local or within Canada. In the subject line, please include "Charity Nominations."
We feel honoured to have our residents play such a vital role in our IMPACT initiatives and donations throughout the years, and especially value your participation during this crisis. Your input is welcomed and appreciated.

GOVERNMENT OF CANADA AWARENESS RESOURCES:
FEDERAL GOVERNMENT ASSISTANCE:
The Government of Canada has pledged $27 billion as part of its COVID-19 Economic Response Plan to help Canadians through this challenging time. Please see below for a list of resources you may be eligible for:
Employment Insurance (EI):
Effective March 15, 2020, the one-week waiting period for those who claim EI benefits is waived for those who are currently in imposed quarantine.
The requirement to provide a medical certificate to access EI sickness benefits is waived.
Emergency Care Benefit:
- Administered through the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).
- Provides up to $900 bi-weekly for up to 15 weeks.
- Who qualifies?
- Workers who don't qualify for EI, who are either sick with COVID-19 or quarantined.
- Workers who don't qualify for EI, who are caring for a family member who is sick with COVID-19.
- For parents, who require care or supervision due to school or daycare closures, and are unable to earn employment income, irrespective of whether they qualify for EI or not.
- When can you apply?
- According to the Canadian government, the application will be available in April 2020 through either CRA MyAccount, My Service Canada, or through a toll-free number.
- Applicants will need to re-attest every two weeks to remain eligible.
Emergency Support Benefit:
Administered through the CRA and will provide up to $5 billion in support.
Intended for workers who lose their job or face reduced hours and are not eligible for EI.
EI Work Sharing Program:
Provides EI to workers who agree to reduce normal working hours due to developments beyond the employers' control.
Extends the eligibility of these agreements to 76 weeks.
Goods and Services Tax credit (GSTC):
The Government of Canada is considering a one-time special payment by early May 2020 through the GSTC.
Singles will gain approx. $400 and couples will receive approx. $600.
Canada Child Benefit (CCB):
For the 2019-20 benefit year, the government is proposing a one-time increase of $300 per child.
2019 Tax Returns:
For individuals, the return date is deferred until June 1, 2020.
Taxpayers may defer any income tax owed until August 31, 2020.
